The Shelby GT350 was first introduced in 1965 as a high-performance version of the Ford Mustang, developed by Carroll Shelby. Shelby was tasked with transforming Fordβs new pony car into a race-ready machine, and he succeeded by creating a car that dominated racetracks in the U.S. and abroad. The GT350 name was revived multiple times over the decades, most notably in the mid-2010s, when Ford reintroduced the model as part of its S550-generation Mustang lineup.
The modern GT350 was launched in 2015 as a 2016 model, built to honor the original’s racing heritage while incorporating modern technology and engineering. It was designed to be more track-focused than any other Mustang model at the time, offering a unique blend of power, handling, and performance.
